Artist Interview - Miss Keke

1. How did you get your artist/group name?
I basically just took the first two letters of my government name "Kelechi" and came up with Keke.. I've been going by the name Keke ever since the age of 12.

2. How long have you been in the music game?
I started singing/rapping at the age of 10 so approximately 13 years.

3. Who are your major influences in your music?
My influences are GOD, LIFE, and experiences. All three of these contribute to the topics I speak on in my music.


4. Where are you from?
I am from Dallas, TX but am of Nigerian descent.. (I have never been but am hoping to go one of these days soon.)

5. Who do you have featured on your album/mixtape?
I have several independent artist.. with my new project, I will be having more independent artist, but some of whom have been making more underground noise.

6. How did you get into music?
I got into music b/c of my lack of expression.. music relaxes me and allows me to calm my nerves while expressing myself.

7. What is your next upcoming project/performance and when?
I am working on an album titled "The Redemption" which is scheduled to release in the first quarter of 2011. I have several shows coming up including a performance on 9-5-2010 at the Green Elephant in Dallas. I also have several others that are in the works. I am very grateful and excited for new opportunities.

8. Who would you like to work with that you haven't already?
Lauryn Hill and any other individual that is making quality, motivational music.

9. Who is your favorite artist/group?
At this point and time, I don't have a favorite. I do enjoy positive music from anyone though.

10. What is your favorite song on your album/mixtape?
My favorite song on the album will probably be "You Don't Really Know" or "Never coming back" .. I love them all so much so it's hard to choose but I am 100% confident in the quality of the project. There are several different kinds of songs so there will be a favorite for each occasion.

11. What motivates you?
My surroundings motivate me as well as the opportunites to be better.

12. What is your album/mixtape title & when is the release date (if available where)?
The album is titled "The Redemption" and it is scheduled to release during the first quarter of 2011. The album will be available on Itunes and also Ma & Pap shops as well as thru me specifically.

13. What would you like to see from the music industry in the next three years?
I would like to see more music being promoted that is POSITIVE and uplifting.

14. In three words; describe your personality?
Hard-working, Perfectionist, and Strong-minded.

15. In three words; describe your music?
Quality, Uplifting, and Intriguing.

16. How does your family & friends feel about your music and your choice of career? They are very much accepting og my career. They see what my music has done for others and how I have impacted the community. I have participated in public speaking for children, motivational speeches, live performances, and more. My family is always there with me supporting my aspirations.

17. Do you have any affiliations (label/team)?
I am affiliated to Jengerbread Marketing which is a very professional marketing company in Dallas, TX. Jennifer (The CEO) deals with branding, marketing, public relations, and so much more. She has organized events for me in the past.

18. What does music mean to you?
Music is life. Music is the answer. Music is..... the future.

19. What advice would you give another artist/group?
I always tell people to stand close to God and KNOW yourself before you get in the music industry. Make decisions because you want to make them, and not because someone else thinks it's best because they might not have your interest at heart.

20. What can we expect from you in the future?
Expect more music and more uplifting. I am not trying to be a big star. I just want to make music and improve someone's life because music is my love.. not a career or a get rich quick scheme. What God has for me is what will be. Stay tuned because "1st Class Chick" (my single) is the first piece I will be using to get the attention of consumers. I am tired of seeing women disrespect themselves. I want to be that voice. I want to celebrate the life of a respectable woman.
